11 dead in terrorist attack on Peshawar Agricultural Directorate

PESHAWAR(BBC ASIA) At least 11 people including a security guard and nine students were killed and more than 17 were injured as Five burka clad terrorists stormed the hostel building Peshawar Agricultural Directorate early on Friday morning.

The security forces have killed all the terrorists after launching an operation in the hostel premises.

The attackers were said to be wearing burqas in the rickshaw in order to avoid detection and were carrying heavy weapons and suicide vests.

Hayatabad Medical Complex Director Shahzad Akbar said six dead and 18 injured had been brought to the hospital.

Khyber Teaching Hospital sources said they had received three bodies and 17 wounded.

Speaking to Media persons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG Salahuddin Khan Mehsud said fortunately not many students were present due to the long weekend, adding that police APCs evacuated around a dozen students from the hostel.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police said all terrorists have been neutralised after a “successful clearance operation” by security forces.

An eyewitness told media that he and his colleagues were sleeping when the firing started, around 8:15am.

The eyewitness, a student, said he and his colleagues ran as fast as they could but two of their colleagues were injured in the firing.

KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the terrorists today came prepared to stage a bigger attack than they were able to execute on the agricultural directorate.

He condemned the terror attack on Eid Miladun Nabi. “Who can commit such an attack on this day?” he asked. “This action is against our religion. It proves that those who do such things really are terrorists.”
